Northwestern Memorial Hospital was once again ranked 13 on the U.S. News and World Report's list of the best hospitals in the U.S. It also ranked number one on the list of hospitals in Illinois, followed by Rush University Medical Center (second), Loyola University Medical Center (third) and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and University of Chicago Medical Center, the two of which tied for fourth.
Shirley Ryan Ability Lab topped the list of rehabilitation centers for the 28th consecutive year.
U.S. News has been compiling this list for the past 29 years and decided this year to focus more on patient experiences and outcomes. Nearly 4,500 medical centers across the country were evaluated.
