Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile unveiled a new 176-foot mural designed by Chicago-based Nancy Pochis Bank Art Studio. Spanning a full block of the hotel’s entranceway between Grand and Illinois, the mural celebrates the hotel’s green initiatives and depicts farmers markets and gardens throughout Chicago neighborhoods.
Designed by four local artists, Nancy Pochis Bank, Brittney Leeanne Williams, Shayne Taylor and Brandin Hurley, the mural was created using high-quality acrylic and outdoor latex paint and took six weeks to complete. Local eighth grade students from LaSalle II Magnet Elementary also helped paint in the mural during a Career Day workshop at the property where they learned about a career in art from Nancy Pochis Bank Art Studio
“The theme of the mural is ‘Urbs in Horto’ or city in a garden and depicts nine local scenes, including Caldwell Lily Pool, the Southside's Promontory Point, and the Westside's Logan Square Farmers' Market,” said Nancy Pochis Bank, founder of Nancy Pochis Bank Art Studio. “Knowing the hotel has a Sky Garden growing fresh herbs 365 days a year, we emphasized the beautiful vegetation at each of these prominent Chicago locations.”
In March of 2017, the hotel’s eco-friendly Sky Garden was installed in the atrium, with 1,000 pots of plants, such as mint and sage, being used in cocktails and dishes in a direct-to-fork approach. The award-winning Sky Garden is the largest greenhouse in a commercial building in the city of Chicago. The Sky Garden will expand this year to the 18th floor with the addition of local produce.
