I was thrilled to “Paint the Mile Magnificent” last Friday night alongside almost 900 guests at our 2019 Annual Gala. Thank you to The Magnificent Mile Association supporters who purchased tables, tickets, and ads; and to those member businesses and partners who donated to our Silent Auction. We raised almost $17,000 for The Magnificent Mile Charitable Foundation from the Silent Auction, along with critical funds to support the Association!
We reveled in colorful décor by Tamar Productions and danced the night away to live music by Dr. Bombay. My heartfelt gratitude to the band’s star percussionist – and Gala Co-Chair! – Lee Golub for his 16 years of outstanding support in sales, planning, and promotion of the gala. He was joined this year by an outstanding Co-Chair, Lyn McKeaney; and of course, our Gala Committee – Nichole Williamson, Chris Howard, and Mary Ann Rose.
This year’s riverside venue at the Sheraton Grand Chicago was a perfect vantage point for our iconic skyline, and the nearby developments along the Chicago Riverwalk. Our emerging second waterfront, a key component of Daniel Burnham’s age-old vision Plan of Chicago, is set to welcome seven new restaurants this summer as part of a $12 million effort to renovate the eastern part of the Riverwalk.
We salute outgoing Mayor Rahm Emanuel for his dedication to this beautiful amenity in our District. We were excited to join city officials and civic partners at the opening celebration earlier this week, and we and look forward to a vibrant summer by the water. (Don’t forget – cruising season is well underway!)
