Dear Members,

It has been a little over a month since the Annual Meeting, and my time as Chairman so far has been exciting – full of renewed purpose for the remainder of 2019. I believe this will be a pivotal year for The Magnificent Mile Association, as we continue to improve relevance, boost engagement, and grow revenue.

The Annual Gala on Friday, May 10 is a major revenue-driver for the Association and an important fundraiser for our Charitable Foundation. What’s more, it’s a fun night filled with dancing to live music by Dr. Bombay—with our Gala Chair, Lee Golub, at the helm. I’d like to thank those companies and Board Members who have committed and confirmed their tables, and I encourage you all to join me as we “Paint The Mile Magnificent” at the Sheraton Grand Chicago.

Each time I visit The Magnificent Mile office, the spirit of teamwork among the staff is undeniable. Of course, the Association is nothing without our stellar community of engaged members, and I would like to welcome our new member businesses to the Association. I look forward to meeting you at an upcoming Member Connection—perhaps even tonight, at the UGG Flagship Store, or on Wednesday, April 10 at the brand-new Barton G. The Restaurant.

To ensure organizational stability and move forward with a strong vision for Association staff and leadership, work has begun on a Search Committee for a new President/CEO. This role will be focused more than ever on advocating for our members to elected officials, city departments, and sister organizations. We have long held a seat at the table, and now is the time to make our voices heard.

Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the 4th Hospitality Hires Chicago event, seamlessly produced by the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership. Tourism has led to an increase of more than 20,000 jobs since 2010, and this event works year after year to connect pre-screened candidates with employers for hundreds of job openings – from seasonal work to full-time positions. I was thrilled to see many of our member businesses participating.

Amid a turbulent news cycle, we crave positive success stories. And these new hires are the best possible ambassadors of The Magnificent Mile experience, as we welcome a record number of tourists to Chicago each year.

What’s more, The Magnificent Mile Association is here to help with concerns over safety and security. As a member benefit, we monitor all criminal activity within the District and provide security alerts to member businesses. We have an internal, electronic communication system in place for this purpose and you can contact Phil Levin to subscribe. We also invite members to participate in monthly committee meetings with other businesses and local law enforcement.

As we head slowly but surely into warm weather and our busiest time along The Magnificent Mile, please remember that I am here to support you – the member. I am always available by email. Do not hesitate to reach out with any comments, concerns, or ideas as we continue to plan for a successful year.

Sincerely,

Rich Gamble

Chairman of the Board of Directors
