As I watched the news from Phoenix, Arizona where I am attending an industry conference, I was disappointed to see Chicago (and the Magnificent Mile) once again make national news again for the wrong reasons. It is unfortunate for any individual or group to go out of their way to create such disruption in any neighborhood in our city. These activities that do not reflect the character of Chicagoans I know, nor the individuals from the community in which I grew up. We are far better than what we displayed yesterday.
As a member benefit, The Magnificent Mile Association monitors all criminal activity within The Magnificent Mile district and provides security alerts to member businesses. I encourage you to subscribe by contacting Phil Levin, as we relay the latest information from the Chicago Police Department. We ask that you remain vigilant as we head into the busiest summer months.
The Association is thankful to the Chicago Police Department for being responsive to this sudden large gathering as they do the difficult job ensuring public safety for all, including the rights of those who peacefully and legally assemble. As we field the transition to a new President/CEO for The Magnificent Mile Association, ours is a community-based approach – to protect and promote our member businesses along North Michigan Avenue and beyond.
In a few short weeks, we will bring our community together to “Paint the Mile Magnificent” at our Annual Gala, presented by Tribune Tower Residences at a new location, The Sheraton Grand Chicago. Join us on Friday, May 10 for a colorful reception, plentiful dessert stations from Association member restaurants, high-caliber networking opportunities, and of course live music from Dr. Bombay all night long.
The gala raises critical funds for the Association, as well as thousands of dollars in donations to The Magnificent Mile Charitable Foundation, which benefits organizations in our community. Our gala is one of the largest in the city and brings together Association members and their guests from a variety of industries. Your support of Magnificent Mile events like the Gala, is essential to the funding that enables core staff, programs and systems that support a better connected, vibrant, influential and desirable business district.
The Magnificent Mile is a neighborhood full of “hidden gems” – for visitors and locals alike. We are thrilled to partner with 360 CHICAGO for a first-time partnership called #TheRealChicago. In the month of May, our neighborhood takeover will showcase a variety of member businesses—from retail to restaurants and cultural attractions. I hope you will join us for the launch event on Thursday, May 2 at the observatory. I am excited to kick off the summer season with a keen focus on our unique community.
